Richmond Council
-Increased Night Flights Consultation- OLD EVENT
An emphatic plea to residents to "make yourself heard" over plans for increased night flights at Heathrow has been issued by Richmond Council.
Residents are being urged to have their say- "loud and clear" - on plans which would increase flights during the pre-dawn hours as early as 2006.
The public meeting has been arranged in collaboration with umbrella group HACAN (The Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise).
It will be held at York House, Twickenham, on September 5, starting 7pm.
Chairing it will be Council Leader, Councillor Tony Arbour, who said:
We will speak up for the people of the borough over this burgeoning problem.
At the same time, I urge residents to send their views directly to the Department for Transport. Responses must reach them by September 16 and, if you have views on aircraft noise, this will be the last opportunity for some time to tell the Government what you think.
Richmond Council has long pressed for an end to night flights and we regard plans to increase them with horror. This will further damage the quality of life of hundreds of thousands of people in west London.
We want a proper night curfew on flights.
The Council also opposes Government plans to add a third runway at Heathrow as, inevitably, this will increase aircraft noise still further.
Our borough suffers unbearable noise from aircraft. That is why we led a consortium of Councils in a Judicial Review last year, to combat current noise levels.
