The Face of Human Trafficking in St Margarets?
a letter from a local resident
For a number of weeks I have been attempting to involve our St Margarets neighbourhood police team in doing something about sexually explicit advertisements on the notice boards of our two local news agents - this, in the knowledge that this type of advertisement is sometimes placed not by the individual offering such services, but by those who control them. The response from Constable Peebles is that in his opinion these are perfectly harmless and in the eyes of the police “there is no offence being committed”.

No Such Thing as Bad Publicity? Really?
Well, this week we received some tweets from @MustardSeedUK about a new report from the Open Rights Group about mobile operators blocking sites incorrectly as ‘p0rn’ sites.
Immediately we checked and the report says, we are in-fact blocked by Orange and T-Mobile. We then attempted to get on IRC with the Open Rights Group, tried to call, but ended up emailing them - no response yet. Well it turns out that a lot of other news groups picked up the story and ran very similar versions of it to the original report; however, pulling out this site as an example of the ridiculousness of the blocking mechanism.
At this point we don’t know what is going to happen, but read on if you are interested and comment if you have some ideas.

Looking Good Martyn Day!

Twickenham Film Studios, Richmond Council and Recycling
Twickenham Film Studios have asked the council to consider removing the recycling bins from the council property adjacent to The Barons. The studios have decided that the bins are not suitable for outside their main reception area and request that they be moved as soon as possible. But where to? Do you have any suggestions as to where else in St Margarets that would make a good place for the recycling bins?

Top 15 Articles Read in 2010
Being the end of the year, we thought, let’s publish a ‘top ten’ list of the most popular articles on this website. However, it quickly became apparent that many of the most popular articles actually are quiet old. So, we decided to look at the top 15 articles to give a fuller picture what people read. One clear statistic as evolved; search engines are bringing a lot of non-St Margarets readers directly to many of these articles. The top article is the clearest example with more than 90% of readers finding the story directly from a search engine. The same could be said for numbers 2, 5 and 8 as well and has led to us adding the date into article titles more often. Anyway, enjoy the list.

Save our High Street
Not to point out Nosh in particular, but these are clearly hard times for nearly everyone and we need to help support our local traders. We don’t want St Margarets to become a shopping ghost town. Just look at Church Street in Twickenham, nearly a third of all shops are gone!
If you can, please try and use the shops in our community when you can and keep St Margarets alive and healthy.
